Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Individuals
While many aspects of society have changed, LGBTQ individuals continue to face stigma and discrimination in their daily lives. Experiences with discrimination can lead to stress, anxiety, depression, isolation, and self-doubt. Dr. Malark has extensive experience helping LGBTQ people to lead more self-accepting, authentic, and open lives. This includes the coming out process, coping with past traumas or discrimination, living with HIV, and concerns with relationships and intimacy. Dr. Malark's research has focused on the mental health of gay and bisexual men, and he has spoken and presented at local and national conferences on LGBTQ affirmative psychotherapy. Dr. Malark also supervised gender and sexuality mental health programs at Columbia University Medical Center from 2015 to 2024.
